Rose Marie McCoy had her first song recorded in 1946 ("After All" by the Dixieaires with Murial Gaines). Though she still wrote songs, for the next six years she stopped showing them around. Then in 1952, she auditioned for Wheeler Records and was asked to record two of her own songs ("Cheating Blues" and "Georgie Boy Blues"). When record companies heard these songs, they began seeking her out, but not for her vocal talent as she had hoped. Soon she was one the most sought after songwriters around. Wheeler Records lasted only about one year, but it helped create one of the longest songwriting careers in history. She wrote her last songs with county singer Billy Joe Conor.
